What’s the difference between fresh mulch and aged mulch?
When a tree is cut down and goes through a brush chipper the ‘fresh mulch’ needs time to stabilise and become ‘cured mulch’ before being spread. Fresh mulch usually needs at least 2 to 3 months to stabilise and cure.
When mulch is fresh it can pull away needed nitrogen. If you are planting, key factors like this are important. Cured mulch has had time to start breaking down so when it is put around a tree it helps to immediately start feeding the ground with nutrients.
